A new hotel and bar will be built on waste land next to a busy Nottingham road. The greenlight has been given for a 26-bed hotel with a restaurant, bar and car parking on Mansfield Road in Carrington, with Nottingham City Council granting planning permission on August 18.
The site is a currently vacant plot on the east side of Mansfield Road in the Mapperley Park and Alexandra Park Conservation Area. The site was once occupied by a hotel formed from a two-storey Victorian villa but this was demolished in 2005.
The new building will be three storeys with accommodation in the roof in the form of dormers. The ground floor will include a lounge, bar, kitchen, office and two bedrooms, with the remaining bedrooms on the upper floors.

There will be seven parking spaces at the front of the building with four more parking spaces and bin storage at the rear. A number of permissions have been granted since for new-build hotels and apartments since the old hotel's closure, but none were implemented.
Locals previously spoke of their excitement over the plans. Some objections were made by neighbours, but the council found in favour of the applicant's plan.
A planning officer for Nottingham City Council, in a planning report, said: "The application site has previously held a hotel and there are hotels to the north with the area generally being of a commercial and residential nature.
"Whilst the objectors' concerns regarding 'non-hotel' uses are understood, the application is for a hotel, which is a Class C1 use (hotels) and planning permission would be required for a change to a different form of residential accommodation; such a proposal would be considered on its own merits. There is therefore no objection in principle to the proposal, provided that it complies with the other policies of the development plan."
Architect Henry Mein Partnership on behalf of applicant Nottingham Properties Ltd said: "The elevations have been amended to suit the new internal layout and have been designed to reflect both that of the previous scheme and the existing properties in the area, with timber windows and stone detailing to compliment the main facing brick façade. The proposal follows the building line of the street and provides a step between the taller properties on the right and the lower building to the left, to help merge with the existing established street scene."
