EL PASO, Texas – The City of El Paso’s Animal Services unveils the first-of-its-kind scanner to help lost pets be reunited with their family.
The new 24Pet Reunite site will be located at Salvador Rivas, Jr. Park at 12480 Pebble Hills Dr.
The site was inspired by the need to provide residents access to a tool that lets anyone scan a pet without the need to take them to a shelter.
Pet owners who want to ensure their own pet is microchipped can use the scanner and learn their pet’s microchip number. If their pet is not microchipped, they can learn how to do so.
The effort is sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society, a national non-profit animal welfare organization.
El Paso Animal Services plans to install more scanners in other parts of the city.
The scanner operates on solar power.
