Emergency services have been scrambled and a hotel evacuated in Northampton this morning after reports of a "threat" was intercepted by police. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the St John's area of Northampton.
Police announced they were attending a "concern for welfare" incident in the area of Northampton town centre at around 6.30am. The force has since revealed it is responding to reports of a threat made against the Premier Inn, in Swan Street.
Guests of the hotel were evacuated at about 3am this morning, according to Northants Police. A 50m cordon has also been put in place around the area as emergency services search the premises.

Superintendent Sarah Johnson said: “At the moment, the response we’ve put in place is a precautionary measure as we work with staff and our partners to return people to the hotel as soon as possible.
“A 50metre cordon has been put in place while our specialist teams search the premises and we expect them to be on scene for the next few hours. The guests from the hotel are in the care of the local authority and we’re working to return the area back to normality as quickly as possible.”
