Brandon Parra Nuevo Laredoan in “The Voice” Mexico eliminated in the semifinal
Brandon Parra, the Nuevo Laredoan with a love for classic rock and who shook the local community with his run in Mexico’s The Voice, or La Voz Mexico, saw his impressive effort come to an end this week in the semifinals of the competition.
Parra’s superior rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” turned heads as it inspired him to sing about reaching his goals. But that and Barry, Higgins and Torch’s “Believe” weren’t enough, as Parra’s impressive run was halted this week.
“This is how far we go guys,” Parra said. “I gave it my all on stage! Excuses, there are many, but what excuse could I give? There is none. I gave everything on stage the times I had to go up, we reaped many triumphs together and we accepted this day that what was committed was not achieved, but I am proud of what I was able to achieve for myself and for you.”
Locals from across both sides of the border reacted to the news with many stating how they were happy for Parra and his accomplishments over such a short time.
One of these individuals was Irene Flores Salinas. She saw her son, Carlos Gutierrez Flores, have a similar experience, as he participated in Masterchef Junior Mexico 2022 and also was eliminated in the semifinal.
“He was a semifinal just as my son. They are both equally talented and the best,” Salinas said.
Laredoans also reacted to the news with heartbreak. Among them was local Maria Trevino, who pulled for Parra and was sad to see him go.
“I can’t believe they got him out when his performance was so perfect,” Trevino said. “Wished he would had made it to the final. It would have been great to see him shine more than what he already has. Wish the best for him and hope to see him do a concert soon or something.”
Parra states that despite what happened, he is proud he was able to showcase the talent from the local area. He does not plan for this to be the end of his career, instead it’s just the beginning.
“I also left the name of Nuevo Laredo very high for everybody to know,” Parra said. “I infinitely thank everyone for supporting me on this path of ‘La Voz’ and let’s continue together! That this continues for more!”
