American restaurant chain, Hooters, is holding a recruitment day in Liverpool this month to fill 200 job positions. The new site is opening in New Zealand House on Water Street, home once upon a time to the Newz Bar.
There's a very strong culture around training development, ensuring that we are helping people to hone the skills that they learn by working for Hooters.
Hooters was granted a licence in February to open a restaurant in Liverpool city centre, despite concerns from ward members and residents. Mayor Joanne Anderson said at the time that the brand had “an infamous sexually objectifying and misogynistic environment”.
The PR announcement about the recruitment day says, “This is a chance to be placed on an international platform and experience the glamorous life that is, truly, the Hooters Way!
“The job role of a Hooters Girl is to be empowered and feel part of a successful team with many opportunities to participate in community events, promotions and possibly travel taking part in worldwide events with a global brand.
“Successful members of the Hooters team will receive flexible hours, great pay, tuition reimbursement and most of all fun. Tuition reimbursement has never been done in the UK! Built on a concept that Hooters is here to support! We believe in a tuition reimbursement program and support for all of our staff.
“Flexible hours Hooters staff work is meant to fit into your own lifestyle. A job in hospitality in Liverpool that will help pay for your degree, let you work your own hours!! This is a first for Liverpool.
“All candidates will be first round interviewed and successful applicants will be contacted to begin the required full exclusive training over a number of weeks.
“This training program will be led by an exclusive and highly skilled training team of internationally renowned Hooters Girls who are flying over from America into Liverpool to train ‘our girls’ the ‘Hooters Way.’
“Currently there are tens of thousands of Hooters staff who work worldwide, whether that is Heart of House or the Front of House-we’ve got you!”
Cheryl Whiting Kish, chief people officer at Hooters who has been with the company for nearly 30 years, said, “Hooters will be 40 years old in 2023. We have over 400 locations worldwide and are super excited to now be opening in the world famous city of Liverpool. Known for its music, sport, people and culture.
“There’s a very strong culture around training development, ensuring that we are helping people to hone the skills that they learn by working for Hooters so as they can manifest and grow into whatever and whoever they want to become. Hopefully they stay with the brand, perhaps they move on and they have other career goals, but they should be all the better for having worked for us.”
Hooters says that despite a misconception in the UK, the company has a 41% women and children customer clientele across the globe, showing that “the wholesome, glamorous cheerleader/girl next door brand is no way distasteful.”
Rachel Moss, MD of Hooters Liverpool, said, “We are really looking forward to opening Hooters and giving the people what they want and need. Great service. A warm welcoming environment and tremendous food! Liverpool is my home city and I am very proud to be bringing such a well known international brand here.
“Work has been ongoing on this project for over two years and the site is amazing. It also gives me great pride to be creating around 200 jobs, both full time and part time for local workers. We will be investing heavily in our staff from day one.”
The recruitment day is on the 18 August 2022 and will take place at the Hilton Hotel Liverpool, between the hours of 11-6pm. Anyone interested in coming along should email recruitment@hootersuk.com before the 16 August.
