Canberra, the capital city of Australia, has the largest homes of any world capital, according to an analysis from building material supplier, Buildworld. The average home size in the city clocks in at 256.3 square meters, or roughly 2,759 square feet. In the U.S., Flood Zone Homes Could Be Seriously Overvalued
Flood zone property prices in the U.S. could be overvalued by anywhere from $121 billion to $237 billion, according to a study from the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), the Federal Reserve and other organizations. “Increasing flood risk under climate change is creating a bubble that threatens the stability of the U.S. housing market,” said Jesse Gourevitch, the lead author of the study. “As we’ve seen in California in the last few weeks, these aren’t hypotheticals and the risk is more extensive than expected—and that risk carries an enormous cost.” Yahoo Finance
Condo Prices Hit Record High in Japan
In Japan, the average price of a new condominium unit hit a new high of 51.21 million yen (US$379,770) in 2022, pushed up by the high cost of construction materials, according to the Real Estate Economic Institute. Prices could continue to rise this year with the arrival of new high-end condo projects in and around Tokyo as well as a growing number of dual-income households, an official of the institute said. Discounts on Offer in California’s Bay Area
For the first time in more than a decade, the average home in the notoriously expensive Bay Area is selling for less than the asking price, according to data from online property portal Redfin.
