Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has discovered an illegal factory specialized in producing adulterated automated transmission fluid, ATF in Ibadan.
The illegal factory which is situated at Gbekuba in the Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan was filled with several drums of oil products and other materials used for vehicle lubrication.
The NSCDC Commandant in Oyo State, Dr Micheal Adaralewa who led his officers to the location, said the place was discovered through credible information from the Special Intelligence Squad of the corps.
He said the tactical team after storming the area confiscated two thousand five hundred litres of packaged adulterated automated transmission fluid, containers of grease oil, metal drums used for storage of the illegally processed grease, and a large quantity of chemicals used in the production of the illicit products.
Dr Adaralewa assured the populace that the conclusion of the investigation would expose other criminals involved in the act and this would also serve as a deterrent to other mischievous elements in the society.
He enjoined members of the public to be conscious kind of lubricants and other fluids used in their vehicles and machinery.
The NSCDC boss in Oyo State added that the two suspects arrested over the case would soon be charged in court after proper investigations.
Speaking with journalists, the owner of the illegal factory, Patrick Umeakuna said, though he had been running the factory for over twenty years it was not licensed.
Umeakuna explained that he visited some stakeholders a few years ago to register the company but met with some obstacles which made the factory remain unregistered.
“I started this factory when this place (Gbekuba) was a forest but it was unfortunate that developments met with it which made people to be suspicious of the place.”
“I have another company in Mowe, Ogun State where I produced engine oil and other lubricants but was legally registered”.
The suspect confessed to having been producing adulterated automated transmission fluid and begged NSCDC to temper justice with mercy.
