Owners of a Perth restaurant have announced their business will close for good next week due to COVID repercussions and rising costs “to ridiculous amounts”.
Bosses at Manhattan’s Family Restaurant on Glasgow Road had “not taken a wage from long before December” to keep the eatery running but say it is not feasible to stay open.
The retro US-inspired diner opened in 2018 next door to The Lovat Hotel following the facility’s £250,000 refurbishment.
But the family-run restaurant will sadly shut its doors permanently on Monday, April 4.
The Lovat Hotel will remain open to the public.
The Manhattan’s team announced in a statement: “Due to circumstances outwith our control we have had to make a very difficult decision to close Manhattan’s.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but unfortunately due to COVID and rising costs to ridiculous amounts it is no longer feasible to continue.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and discussed at length as a family and team, we have tried so hard and worked tirelessly to bring back a restaurant for families and functions. Unfortunately lockdowns and the repercussions of COVID have forced us to make this decision.
"The hospitality trade for us has not picked up to what we need to survive.
“The three owners have worked exceptionally long hours as well as our team, the owners have not taken a wage from long before December to keep the restaurant open and now it is not feasible for us to continue on in this manner.”
In a message of gratitude they added: “Many thanks for all your continued support, fantastic comments and amazing atmosphere you all brought. You truly made our two years amazing, we will miss you all terribly.
“We would also like to thank the most amazing team we could ever have (actually part of our family and will continue to be) Gordon and Leona have been with us from the very beginning and are a massive asset to us.
“They will be sorely missed by customers and our children who have grown up and learned from them too.
“We cannot begin to thank you both enough for the dedication you have given us, the long hours, late nights and consistent weekends and staff sickness.
“There are seven young children between the owners who have been a big influence and spent a lot of time with us there. From setting up the business to helping in their own way to keep us going.
“They are all devastated by this decision however too young to understand why they won’t be going back to Manhattan’s anymore.”
