More than 110,000 people have called for an annual ‘Queen Elizabeth II Day’ bank holiday.
A new campaign wants to see a permanent day of tribute to Her Majesty after her death on Thursday.
Royal fan John Harris launched a petition on Change.org for an extra bank holiday to ‘mark our greatest sovereign’s lifetime’.
‘The Queen is our longest-reigning monarch, and arguably the nation’s, and the world’s most popular ever monarch,’ he wrote on the page.
‘In the words of president Macron, “to you, she was your Queen, to us, she was the Queen… the most constant symbol of Great Britain”.
‘She was indeed, an inspirational woman. Britain has fewer bank holidays than most European countries.
‘France has 11 compared with our eight, Spain has 14.
‘A Queen Elizabeth Day. A day for our Nation to come together and celebrate both the life of the Queen, and our gratitude for the institution of our Royal Family.’
Last week, it was announced that the day of the monarch’s funeral on Monday will be a national bank holiday.
As her coffin is set to begin its route from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall later this afternoon, many will be preparing for the historic day.
Schools will be closed, as well as many workplaces, allowing the nation to come to terms with the loss.

So far, at least 114,00 people have signed Mr Harris’ petition.
‘The Queen has been an enormous influence on this country for 70 years and deserves to be remembered in this way,’ Mark Cartwright wrote on the website this morning.
Another supporter, Sam King, said: ‘The Queen was the best of what it means to be British.
‘She was very much a core aspect of our identity as a nation, and served diligently for so long. We should mark a day of respect.’
Others signed because they ‘want more holidays’.
At 150,000 signatures, this petition becomes one of the top on Change.org.
