Members of the NYPD's Neighborhood Safety Team and Field Intelligence unit on Staten Island seized a machine gun from a "known gang member" last week on the borough's North Shore, according to the department's top brass. (Submitted/Twitter)
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A machine gun was removed from the streets of Staten Island’s North Shore last week, leading to the arrest of a Stapleton man police say is a “known gang member.”
The arrest, conducted around 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 15, was credited to the borough’s Neighborhood Safety Team — the department’s revised take on the embattled plain clothes units of the past — and field intelligence officers. A spokesperson for the NYPD did not specify Wednesday where the arrest was carried out.
This machine gun is now off the streets of Staten Island and out of the hands of a known gang member, thanks to the work of the Neighborhood Safety Team & the Field Intelligence Officers in the @NYPD120Pct. It is work like this that helps to make New York City safer for everyone. https://t.co/foOQhIoFjy
