EVERYONE loves an upgrade while away from home – not least at a hotel – but what if you can nab one for free?
A TV show has revealed a clever hack for getting a better room at Premier Inn without parting with any more of your hard-earned cash.
On the Channel 5 programme Premier Inn: Britain’s Biggest Budget Hotel, which airs tonight, insiders shared how to secure a superior night’s stay with one extra step.
For many people, that means a peaceful night’s sleep away from other noisy guests.
Ryan James, former Premier Inn operations manager, said: “[If you’d like a quieter room] ask for the top floor.
“Because normally the parties and families tend to be put on the bottom and middle floors because of the noise.”
What’s more, whatever your preferences – be that more space for children or being close to reception – it’s always worth putting in a special request.
Kofi Ofosu-Akwa, an ex-Premier Inn housekeeper, noted: “Call [the hotel] first and see what they can do for you. If you don’t ask you don’t get.”
However, while some rooms might be slightly better than others, most of the affordable chain's 76,000 rooms across the UK have been designed to have similar high-quality look.
The documentary explains that the decor theme colour is purple, chosen because of its links to royalty and aristocracy since Medieval times.
Of the rooms, interior designer Shaun Clarkson told the programme: “They’ve optimised the space by using bright, light colours – which gives an airiness.
“They’ve also used a carpet pattern which gives the idea of a longer, bigger space than it really is.”
Referring to the en-suite bathrooms, he revealed "They use bigger tiles because there are fewer grout marks to get dirty.
"Brightly lit, and the overall feeling is clean – which is what you want from a bathroom."
Premier Inn has cheap family rooms from £62 a night during the summer school holidays, which works out at £15pp for a family of four.
There are hundreds of seaside locations available this summer, plus kids get to eat for free.
It's worth checking out the Premier Inn breakfast, as one of the hotel chain's London properties recently made the list of the best breakfasts in the world.
