The highly-anticipated tell-all finally has a publication date.
In summer 2021, Penguin Random House announced
a literary memoir by Prince Harry coming out sometime in 2022.
"I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think," the Duke of Sussex said in a statement announcing the book.
The prince continued, "I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful."
In the initial announcement, Penguin Random House shared that the "intimate and heartfelt memoir" was tentatively scheduled for late 2022, and that Prince Harry will be donating proceeds to charity. Then, new sources reported the book will likely be out by the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays—putting the publication date possibly in late November 2022.
Finally, ahead of the holiday season, the New York Times reported that the book has an official publication date: January 10, 2023. When the Times story dropped, both Penguin Random House and a representative for Prince Harry declined to comment. A day later, however, the publisher confirmed: Harry’s memoir Spare will be released on January 10, 2023.
"Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a prince, a soldier, and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues, establishing himself as a global leader recognized for his courage and openness. It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story," CEO of Penguin Random House Markus Dohle said in a statement upon the original announcement of the book.
Spare, the publisher writes, "is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."
Harry joins numerous other members of the royal family to author books, including his wife Meghan Markle’s children’s book, The Bench, and his father Prince Charles’s nonfiction book on the environment, Harmony.
Spare is available for pre-order now, and better yet, it’s on sale. You can also listen to Spare for free on Audible if you sign up for their trial.
