PRINCE Harry felt "threatened by silence" after Meghan Markle told an "awkward" joke at the Trooping the Colour.
In the Prince Harry’s memoir he recalls the moment he was faced by a “yawning silence” from the Royal Family after Meghan Markle’s Trooping the Colour joke.
In his book titles Spare, the Duke said everyone at the Trooping the Colour was “in a good mood, upbeat”.
However the mood changed after Meghan Markle made a joke to Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry wrote: “But then: Kate asked Meg what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour. And Meg joked: Colourful,” Harry then claimed “a yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole.”

The Duke of Sussex referred to an unofficial biography by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand published in August 2020 about his and his wife's life in his memoir.
The book claimed that Meghan underwent a "mock kidnapping" to prepare for "all high-risk security scenarios" making it an "extremely intense and scary" experience for her.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry hit out at the claims, writing: "A bestselling book describes the day Special Forces came to our house, grabbed Meg, put her through several intense days of drills, pushing her into back seats and car boots, speeding away to safe houses."
But in reality, Harry said the Duchess "wasn't given one minute of training."
He added: "On the contrary, the Palace floated the idea of not giving her any security at all because I was now sixth in line to the throne".
King Charles will break a Coronation royal tradition by dropping the wearing of silk stockings and breeches.
Instead, the monarch will be wearing his military uniform when he is crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
An insider said: “Though some of the more long-winded elements of the Coronation will be moved aside or modernised, the King was happy to wear the breeches and stockings.
“But in discussion with senior aides they are saying he should not wear them, so will arrive in a military uniform instead.
“It is largely to do with modernising the Coronation and stripping away the stuffiness. They think having a 74-year-old King arriving in stockings and breeches in 2023 looks too dated. They are probably right.”
Student Patrick Thelwell pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour after he allegedly "threw eggs at the King" during his visit to York on November 9, 2022.
A pre-trial hearing at York magistrates heard from his solicitor Nicola Hall on whether his actions "were part of legitimate protest" and whether they "looked likely to cause fear of unlawful violence."
She added: "He would take the view his actions were necessary and part of a protest against the establishment".
Senior District Judge Paul Goldspring released Thelwell on unconditional bail until his trial at the same court on April 14.
Prince Harry and Meghan took a financial hit upon leaving the Royal Family, however, thanks to the media deals they settled, their net worth has taken a positive turn.
MailOnline reported that the Duke and Duchess signed a four-book deal with their book publisher, Penguin Random House, for £16million.
Meanwhile, they also benefitted from a deal signed with Spotify back in 2020 for £18million.
In 2022, the couple released a six-episode docu-series on Netflix which saw them rake in £88million.
King Charles and his wife Camilla met with England's manager Gareth Southgate at Norbrook Community Centre in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester.
The centre offers weekly footy sessions for young people and the King couldn't resist but poke a football himself while on the sidelines.
Southgate said: "He's incredibly passionate about it and is very aware of the difficulties for young people growing up today. I wasn’t sure whether we would lose him as he’s obviously got a lot on his plate now.
"But it was great to see he is so appreciative of the people who help to run the courses, the leaders. Whenever you speak to him he always immediately refers to what is going on with the trust, what is going on for young people, the impact of the pandemic and those sorts of things.
"He has always had this genuine desire to give people opportunity."

A representative from Sotheby’s announced Kim Kardashian bought Princess Diana‘s Attallah Cross necklace yesterday for $197,453 (£163,800).
Diana first wore the iconic piece of jewellery in 1987 at the London Charity Gala.
A recent royal trend report from Prettylittlething revealed online searches for the people’s princess’s jewellery have since skyrocketed by 450%.
Former royal correspondent Camilla Tominey has spoken out about Prince Harry‘s hypocrisy when it comes to press coverage.
Tominey told Press Gazzette: “I note that the journalists who are singled out for criticism are those who haven’t always given Harry and Meghan sort of undiluted praise, but that’s not our job.
“I think people misunderstand it like we are mates with these people.
“Gyles Brandreth said ‘when it comes to the royals, you never confuse friendliness for friendship’.
“I mean, I wouldn’t even say I got a degree of friendliness, ironically, from any of them but Harry.
“On one hand he’d say, ‘oh, why are you all here?’ and ‘I don’t like you and I don’t want you on this job’.
“And then on another, you’d get this sense that he was kind of craving coverage…
“Megan and Harry really enjoy the limelight to a certain extent, whereas William and Kate are naturally very introverted and shy.
“So that was an interesting dynamic from the beginning.”
Princess Kate hosted a reception for the world champion England Wheelchair Rugby League team on Thursday afternoon at Hampton Court Palace.
Following Prince Harry stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Princess of Wales replaced him as patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League.
Kate was greeted by chair of the Rugby Football League, Simon Johnson, and took time to speak with and congratulate players and coaches.
England defeated France in the Rugby League World Cup Final 28-24 in November 2022 to become world champions.
Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle, 58, said Prince Harry is “lacking in empathy, remorse, and shame”.
Speaking with GB News, Samantha said: “I think he [Harry] is lacking in empathy, remorse, and shame.
“He is showing a clear disconnect with reality and is so emotionally underdeveloped that he can’t move on from this stage where he has resentment over a whole host of issues.
“I don’t think he can think like an adult because I don’t think emotionally he is one.
“It’s really par for the course that he’s behaving in this bitter and delusionary way.
Asked about whether she thought King Charles should apologise to the Sussexes, she added: “It would come with a great deal of risk and, I believe, be absolutely dangerous to do so.
“If King Charles apologises to them, he is opening the door for more abuse.
“That’s what happens when you apologise to sociopaths and narcissists. You find yourself beating a dead horse.
“And he cannot be apathetic and enable that sort of manipulation and control.”
Prince William spent time at youth homelessness charity Depaul UK yesterday – a charity Princess Diana was closely involved with.
Diana visited the north London based charity in 1990, 1993 and 1995, opening the first Depaul Trust Hostel on her last engagement there.
The issue of homelessness was very important to Diana, and she passed this on to William, who is patron of homeless charities The Passage and Centrepoint.
The Prince of Wales said: “Ever since I came here with my mother, homelessness has stuck with me as an issue I want to fight for.
“I’ve done everything I can to raise the profile of the homeless, and I want to do a lot more.”
Kate Middleton beamed on Wednesday morning as she visited Foxcubs Nursery in Luton, Bedfordshire.
The Princess joined children aged two to five to make colourful animal masks as part of her ongoing work to elevate the importance of early childhood to lifelong outcomes.
She also learned to write Chinese characters to mark the new year.
Her royal appearance came after Prince Harry, 38, made a string of allegations about her in his memoir Spare.
In one shocking segment he blamed Kate and husband William for encouraging him to wear a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party.
The latest Ipsos Mori poll shows 53% of Brits have a negative view of Prince Harry, whereas almost 70% had a positive view of him before Mexit in 2019.
55% of those polled held a negative opinion of Meghan Markle, with just 23% saying they were going to read Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare.
In light of accusations made by the duke about his brother, Prince William’s popularity had also slipped by -8%.
With a mere 10%, Prince Andrew’s favourability was right at the bottom of the scale.
Chief Executive of Ipsos in the UK and Ireland, Kelly Beaver MBE, said: “The immediate impact on public opinion should not be exaggerated – and it should be noted is partly a return from the uplift in public sympathy after the sad passing of the Queen.
“Britons are still much more positive than negative towards the King, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Princess Royal, and towards the Royal Family as a whole, and views towards the institution as a whole are so far little changed.
“While the stories may have challenged the public’s views towards the individuals involved, the monarchy itself endures for now.”
In a big shift of opinion, nearly half of the US public believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should be stripped of their royal titles, according to exclusive polling by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek.
Not long ago, in a poll released on December 5, 43% of Americans believed the Sussexes should keep their titles, with 27% saying they should lose them.
But in little more than a month those figures have flipped, with 45% thinking they should lose their royal titles, 26% wanting the duke and duchess to keep them, and 28% responding “don’t know”.
Melanie Cable-Alexander warned Prince Harry about the consequences of taking “eye-watering” sums of money to tell his side of the story.
Cable-Alexander had an affair with Lord Snowdon – Princess Margaret’s ex-husband – but didn’t talk about it until public interest died down to protect her son.
Writing for the Daily Mail, she said: “I was offered eye-watering sums of money to tell my story. One paper dangled an extraordinary £1 million in front of me.
“But I never did take their money. I quickly realised that the more I said, the more I would fan the flames, and the longer the story would linger, until [her son] Jasper himself would be able to read about it.
“That was the last thing I wanted. The best way to protect my son was to simply shut up until the public interest in us both died away.
Melanie added: “And this is what so astonishes and concerns me about Spare, the wildly revelatory book by Prince Harry.
“Each time I read or hear another word by him about his rift with the royals or the misery of his life pre-Meghan, I wince for his two young children.
“With so much dirty linen being washed in public, so many accusations flung, how on earth is it going to affect Archie, aged three, and one-year-old Lilibet, in future?
“At this rate, I fear Harry is perpetuating for his own children those same feelings of vulnerability, insecurity and ‘spareness’ that he himself so palpably possesses.”
Top astrologer Jessica Adams claimed King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla‘s coronation “will not go as planned”.
Adams told the Daily Express to “expect a date change or cancellation.”
She said: “The people of the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom, as well as Parliament, will be drawn into the crisis following new revelations about Charles, Diana and Camilla.
“The coronation is set for May 2023 but will not go as planned, something Harry has hinted at in publicity for Spare.”
The astrologer added: “The Anglican church has never crowned a divorced man as king, let alone one who has confessed to adultery – and nor has a woman participating in adultery become Queen.”
During a meeting with England’s world champion Wheelchair Rugby League team yesterday afternoon at Hampton Court Palace, Princess Kate revealed that Prince Louis is “mad” about the game.
Kate said: “Louis is mad about Rugby.”
Speaking about her three children, she added: “They all love sport.
“They are at an age where they just love running around.”
A royal expert has said the Royal Family must take not of at least some of the criticisms Prince Harry made in his new book.
Rachel Burchfield, co-host of Podcast Royal, said: "I hope, as far as change, we figure some things out to welcome women — and men — into the family.
"But I don't think the monarchy is in jeopardy after this book. I do think they can read the book and if they're thoughtful and mindful, take some of the criticisms about the institution about the firm and make them.
“I hope that this book is not for nothing.”
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, body language expert Darren Stanton examined Prince Harry’s interview with the Late Show’s Stephen Colbert.
“It’s now clear to me that Harry is loving life in California. While speaking about moving to America, I saw genuine flashes of happiness and joy, which is something I haven’t seen in previous interviews.
“In my opinion, Harry has been known to mask his emotions over the years. However, now that his book is published, he’s in a position to openly speak about his views.
“Despite the sensitive topic, Harry was extremely open whilst speaking about the death of his mother Diana.
“While he did flash some expressions of sadness, his body language was consistent with someone who was speaking from the heart.
“Overall, I thought it was a great interview with Harry being extremely open and to the point. There was no sidestepping or objections to any questions, proving he was happy and relaxed to speak about all areas of his life.”
Lady Camilla met children at the Norbrook Youth club today as she unveiled a new bookshelf.
The project, which is part of the Marcus Rashford Book Club, is designed to get young people into reading by providing free books.

Brits may be disappointed to find out that the quest list for King Charles' coronation has been cut by more than half when compared to his mother's.
The historic ceremony 70 years ago saw stands in Westminster Abbey built to hold 8,000 people.
However, a Parliamentary source has said thousands will be let down if they're planning on getting an invite with only 3,000 attending.
The source said: “We’re waiting for details but have been told to expect around 3,000.
"So nothing like the 8,000 last time, when scaffolding and all sorts was put up to accommodate the numbers.
“It will mean far fewer people, so they will have to think about who does and does not get an invite.
“And there will be a lot of disappointed people.”

Queen Consort Camilla praised Marcus Rashford earlier today when she unveiled books donated by the Manchester United forward to his childhood youth club.
Camilla described Rashford's good deed as "wonderful" while she and King Charles spent the afternoon at the Norbrook Youth Club, Wythenshawe, where the England ace spent hours shooting pool with his friends as a schoolboy when he wasn't playing football.
The club received a bookshelf full of children's novels picked by the footballer and Mamillan Children's Books team, which were donated by the Marcus Rashford Book Club in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.
England Manager Gareth Southgate was also present, and when asked about the striker's role in tackling issues such as child literacy and hunger, he said: “He’s been so impressive in being able to cope with it and to be thinking of other people.
“We’re fortunate in our team. We’ve got a lot of young men who recognise the privilege they’ve got and the opportunity to help other people that have come from the same areas that they’ve come from… We are in his youth centre, aren’t we.”
During his visit to Bolton Town Hall today, King Charles watched a dance performance by the Polonez folk group.
Artistic director for Polonez, Asia Cullinan, said: "It was surreal to perform for the King. I didn't quite believe it until he came out of the car.
"It was memorable, historical and I was very privileged to have been asked by the palace themselves to come and perform.
"I'm the artistic director for the group and I wasn't even told about the royal visit.
"I just had to beg these people to take time off work and to trust me and then we were all allowed to know about a week ago.
"I feel elated now we have performed and just so privileged to be able to represent Poland in front of the King of England.
"It was absolutely fantastic."
