Reigning for more than 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II served as the longest-running monarch in history. Apart from that honor, the Queen was also known as the oldest monarch in the world, having become taking on the role at age 25, shortly after the death of her father, George VI. She was celebrated for her long reign earlier this year with a Platinum Jubilee celebration.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, the Royal Family announced that she had died at age 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she had spent the summer.
Throughout her reign, a variety of actresses (and at least one actor) portrayed the royal monarch. Whether in an Academy Award-winning film or on a theater stage, The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at the famous faces that have stepped into the royal shoes.
