LONDON — Ceremonies in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II grew quieter and more sparse as Britain gears up for the queen’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday. King Charles III — after a long week darting across the United Kingdom for processions held for his mother and his inaugural tour as monarch — spent Thursday away to reflect and rest away from public duty.
Meanwhile, Britons continued to queue up for hours to pay respects to the queen as she lies in state at Westminster Hall. In typical British fashion, the line, dubbed “The Queue,” is carefully managed, with stewards, wristbands and toilets along the way.
All times are local, five hours ahead of Eastern time, unless noted otherwise.
