For the first time, we also got exclusive access to how the PSLE Math paper is set and how exam papers are marked. Find out if drilling your child can help them score, and (in a digital extra) what markers are really looking for.
What got to me the most was the immense preparation some parents put their children and themselves through. No more school mid-year exams? There are tuition centres aplenty that proudly offer mock exams, even tuition for parents.
Nothing about the burden of stress seems to have changed. Which is why, in three digital exclusives, we posed some tough questions to Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, who also had an honest conversation with host Diana Ser and with some students on academic pressure.
My daughter is in P2 and I told myself I’d not send her for tuition during her primary school years. She should be enjoying her childhood. But after producing this show, I’m having second thoughts: Am I bad parent for depriving my child of opportunities, if all her peers are having extra classes?
Of course not – but I did question myself. Perhaps the best takeaway from this show is to really listen to our children, and how our expectations affect them.
