Rugby league returns to C.ex Coffs International Stadium this weekend as the Cronulla Sharks play host to the Gold Coast Titans in a repeat of last year’s fixture on the New South Wales North Coast.
It was the Sharks who triumphed when the two sides met in Round 12 last year, with Ronaldo Mulitalo scoring a double in Cronulla’s 38-10 win that wasn’t without drama as four players found their way into the sin-bin throughout the match.
Prior to last year’s NRL game, Coffs Harbour hosted the previously annual game between the NSW City and Country Origin sides with the 2007 and 2013 games taking place at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
The venue also hosted international matches throughout the early 2000’s as well as Challenge Cup matches in 1995 and an AMCO Cup fixture in 1978.
In terms of this week’s contest, there’s plenty of separation on the ladder between the Sharks and Titans, who come into Round 15 in fifth and 16th position respectively. A win for Cronulla could see them move into the top four, while a victory for the Justin Holbrook’s men would end a run of four straight defeats and give them their first victory away from the Gold Coast this year.
