The special annual event Light up a Life takes place this Sunday (December 11) at 5pm at Arthur Rank Hospice, Shelford Bottom, Cambridge.
It is an opportunity for people in the community to gather together and to look ahead with hope while remembering those they love, or to reflect on current challenges.
The 30-minute service, led by the charity’s chaplain, Keith Morrison, includes poems, songs, readings and music from Vocal Remix and the Cambridge Citadel of The Salvation Army Band.
After the lights adorning the Christmas tree are turned on, there will be a poignant moment of silence to remember the lives of loved ones who are now absent but who have left their light in our lives. The event will also be recorded, to be viewed from December 14.
Chaplain Keith Morrison said: “Light up a Life is an opportunity for people to choose to come and remember. I hope it will help people to acknowledge where they are now, and also to look ahead to what may be.”
Many of those attending or watching the event, which is sponsored by Redmayne Arnold & Harris, are likely to have experienced Keith’s support or that of the charity’s patient and family support team, but the gathering is not exclusive to those who have. It is free to attend and is open to everyone. There is no need to sign up – simply turn up on the evening.
