Today I’d like to remind our readers that Singapore Airlines still has a policy in place that allows unlimited free changes to all SQ-issued tickets through July 31, 2022 either online or offline through the call center.
Additionally, all tickets issued until July 31, 2022 can make ONE complimentary change past this date for the validity of the ticket, which is usually one year after the date of issue.
All booking change fees will be waived if your ticket is eligible for complimentary rebooking. All you have to do is pay the fare difference (if any) and of course, in case of award tickets any change is subject to the availability of applicable fare classes.
You can find the policy on Singapore Airlines website here.
The website describes the waiver as follows:
Enjoy complimentary rebooking for all tickets issued up to 31 July 2022
We understand that travel plans may change given the evolving nature of the Covid-19 pandemic. If you have a ticket issued on or before 31 July 2022, you can now rebook your flight without a fee and may transfer your purchased additional baggage or seats, if any, to the new flights. Purchased add-on deals i.e., seats with additional baggage, will be refunded. Read on to find out more.’
Make unlimited changes to your booking
With complimentary rebooking, you can:
All booking change fees will be waived if your ticket is eligible for complimentary rebooking. All you have to do is pay the fare difference, if any.
Any booking change you make must be before your original travel date or within a year of your ticket’s date of issue, whichever is earlier. For example, if your ticket was issued on 15 June 2021, you must make your changes before 15 June 2022. You can find your ticket’s date of issue in the e-ticket pdf attached to your booking confirmation email.
To change your destination, please contact your local Singapore Airlines office or your travel agency or third-party website—depending on who you purchased your tickets from.
In the event of a flight cancellation, international border closures, or if you test positive for Covid-19 and are unable to travel, you can seek a refund of the unused portion of your ticket. Submit your refund request here.
Book now, postpone later
We are waiving the booking change fees. Book now and there is no need to worry about your travel dates.
If you have purchased your ticket on or before 31 July 2022, you can rebook your flights as many times as you like, with no booking change fees, up to 31 July 2022. Your ticket will be reissued based on your updated itinerary, with a new validity period of up to 12 months.
You are still entitled to one complimentary change after the period for unlimited complimentary rebooking ends on 31 July 2022. Fees will apply for any further changes made to the booking.
It’s rather interesting that they would refund the entire ticket for free if testing positive for Covid. It doesn’t mention what exact proof is required for that.
I had to make use of this policy this week as I was unable to take my flight from Bangkok to Bali due to medical treatment and after I only got error messages online I called the Singapore Airlines ticketing hotline via the U.S. toll-free number.
It was answered immediately, the agent was very professional and the change was done quickly:
I was charged 35 Thai Baht (US$1) in tax difference which was likely just a currency exchange thing. After paying that through the weird phone entry payment system I was promptly sent a new ticket to my email.
The agent mentioned that since this is a partner airline ticket, online changes and cancellations aren’t possible which is rather annoying.
Conclusion
There are still two weeks left to purchase Singapore Airlines tickets (both revenue and award tickets) and benefit from their change waiver for the remainder of July and the coming 12 months.
It could be very beneficial to have tickets purchased under these conditions as it gives the traveler enhanced flexibility that are otherwise impossible, especially on saver tickets. If one is already considering to buy SQ tickets anyway I’d strongly recommend to do so until July 31st.
