SINGAPORE: One resident was killed in a fire which broke out in a Jurong East flat on Tuesday morning (Aug 16).
The body was found in the ninth-floor unit, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post.
The SCDF was alerted to the fire at Block 236 Jurong East Street 21 at about 2.50am. The fire was raging inside the unit when firefighters arrived, it added.
A resident in the affected unit had evacuated before that.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus sets to enter the smoke-filled flat to fight the blaze, while another team forced their way into a unit next door to rescue three occupants.
A combined platform ladder was also deployed at the back of the block for external firefighting. The fire was extinguished using three water jets.
It took about five hours to fully extinguish the fire, SCDF told CNA.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
