Uber Eats has revealed the Midlands restaurants shortlisted in the regional heats of its UK and Ireland Restaurant of the Year awards. The Midlands and East Anglia category of the competition features nine eateries, including Indian restaurants in Birmingham and Brierley Hill, a South Asian streatery in Walsall, a Caribbean place in West Bromwich and, further out, a 'health-conscious' spot in Telford.
Dining destinations are nominated by the public and the shortlist made to represent the highest rated and most popular restaurants in each of the ten regions represented at the awards. From now until August 19, the public is being urged to vote for its favourite, with the winner scooping a £200,000 prize.
The only Birmingham venue to make the shortlist is Asha's, the restaurant popular among celebrities including Two Tikkas Tom Cruise and singer Pink, who said it was the best Indian food she'd ever eaten.

In Brierley Hill, highly-rated Taste From India on the high street is up for the prize, while in West Bromwich, Caribbean spot Doreen's Kitchen is competing for the regional title. Indian streatery Chainak on Caldmore Green is representing Walsall and in Telford, LYFBAR in Lawley Bank is hoping to scoop the prize.
Those who get the most votes in their region will go to London for a day of judging, cooking for Dame Prue Leith, chef Monica Galetti and Matthew Price, general manager at Uber Eats. Gordon Ramsay's former Chef de Partie Seema Pankhania and head of procurement at Be Inclusive Hospitality Lorraine Copes will complete the judging panel.
Bake Off judge Prue Leith said: "I'm delighted to work with Uber Eats to crown their Restaurant of the Year again this year. Last year, we got to see all the hard work and effort these businesses go to for their customers and spotlight some extraordinary people, stories and restaurants.
"This year, I’m once again looking forward to discovering the next big thing in the restaurant industry, and of course to eating some amazing food."
Matthew Price added: "The Uber Eats Restaurant Awards is about championing the pioneers of the restaurant industry. The restaurants from the Midlands & East Anglia span a wide range of cuisines, and are great examples of the hard work and dedication that goes into running a successful restaurant."
