MLB All-Star Albert Pujols Sells Southern California Mansion
Retired MLB All-Star first baseman Albert Pujols has sold his massive Irvine, California, home for $8.8 million. The more than 9,200-square-foot spread has five en-suite bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Features include a movie theater, a meditation room and a spacious outdoor space with a pool with a grotto-style slide, a hot tub and a fire pit. Pujols purchased the home in the gated Shady Canyon neighborhood in 2012 for $5.5 million. A Plot of Land Listed in New South Wales With a ‘Free’ House
A parcel of land in Catalina, New South Wales, is listed for sale and comes with a “free” house. The house in question is currently an elevated structure bearing a “danger keep out” sign, but the zoning allows for either a duplex or a new house to be built on the site. The property, which is in a suburb of Batemans Bay, is asking A$419,000 (US$277,294), far below Sydney’s median house price of A$1.595 million. It’ll Now Be Easier to Turn San Francisco Office Spaces Into Homes
In an attempt to revive the struggling downtown, San Francisco will make it easier to turn empty offices into homes. City voters have approved Proposition C, which offers a tax break for developers who convert up to 5 million square feet of commercial space to housing by 2030 and could help create tens of thousands of new homes. As some of the major tech companies, like Meta and Salesforce, have allowed their employees to work remotely or relocate, the city’s commercial vacancy hit a record 36% as of December. BNN Bloomberg
Million-Dollar Homes Are Becoming More Common in Some Small U.S. Towns
Many small towns in the U.S. are no longer more affordable than big cities. In Bozeman, Montana—whose housing market boomed during the pandemic when home buyers craved more space at a lower cost—the median sales price of a single-family home is now $1.16 million, which is about a 40% annual increase, according to the Bozeman Real Estate Group. “The steady increase in buyers, combined with the lowest number of homes for sale that we had ever seen, drove the price of a home in Bozeman up faster than you can say powder day,” the firm wrote in a report.
