Large Proportion of U.S. Home Buyers Would Purchase a Haunted House
Nearly 70% of would-be home buyers in the U.S. would purchase a haunted house if it checked all their boxes, according to a survey by online property portal Zillow, which defines a haunted house as one that has had persistent rumors of having had ghosts and spiritual apparitions. Making paranormal properties particularly appealing are the already terrifying conditions buyers are facing in the real estate market, such as sky-high mortgage rates and an ongoing shortage of housing stock. “Perhaps it’s not surprising that ghosts are just one more less-than-ideal feature most buyers would live with to get their foot in the door of homeownership,” said Amanda Pendleton, Zillow’s home trends expert. The project, which will stand on a site that previously held an office building, will include a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom homes, with some units coming pre-furnished. It will also feature design and functional elements used in the brand’s vehicles, including a shareable fleet of electric vehicles, and is scheduled to open its doors in early 2024. A Waterfront Sydney Teardown Sells for A$5.75 Million
The most expensive home sold in Australia over the weekend was a A$5.75 million (US$3.63 million) waterfront teardown. Located in the Seaforth, a suburb in the north of the city, the property is currently home to a single, older house, but comes with plans for a pair of luxury new buildings, designed by local architects Baxter and Jacobson. The parcel, which extends to the water of Powder Hulk Bay, is one of the suburb’s last waterfront addresses with the scope to be developed. Domain
Money Laundering Probe Is Impacting High-End Home Sales in Singapore
Luxury home sales are falling in Singapore, weighed down by one of the nation’s largest money-laundering scandals. “The recent anti-money-laundering blitz by the Singapore police force has tainted the luxury property market,” said Lewis Cha, executive director of List Sotheby’s International Realty. “It will take a while for the dust to settle and the market to forget this negative image of luxury real estate.” High-end bungalow sales are set for their worst year in nearly a decade with just eight sold as of the end of September, according to Knight Frank. Buyers are being further impacted by major tax increases on foreign buyers and rising interest rates. South China Morning Post
