May 29, 2023 – Northwest League (NWL) – Everett AquaSox News Release
Everett, WA: For the fourth time this season a Frog has been crowned Northwest League player of the week. Alberto Rodriguez hit .448 with six home runs and 15 RBIs over seven games in Eugene from May 23-28. Rodriguez had hit only two home runs in the 2023 campaign before going off against the Emeralds this week.
Rodriguez, who was acquired from the Blue Jays in 2020in the Taijuan Walker trade is a career .279 hitter in the Minor Leagues. If Rodriguez continues to play the way he has, he is on pace to have his best season in professional baseball to date. With eight home runs before June, he is on pace to blow away his season high of 10 big flies from 2021 and 2022. His .329 average would also be a major improvement on his previous best mark of .301 in 2019, when he was still in the Blue Jays organization.
Rodriguez is currently the number 27 prospect in the Mariners minor league system according to MLB Pipeline.
Jonatan Clase won the award twice in the last two weeks of April before being called up to Arkansas and Reid VanScoter won the pitcher of the week award for the week of April 17-23.
