We said it last year and we’ll say it again: we love RTRFM!
The community radio station is an integral part to our vibrant music and arts scene, and is where many of our most celebrated musical artists got their start. (Take a look back at some of the famous faces that have graced the stage of their flagship event In the Pines over the past 30 years!)
Radiothon, RTRFM’s annual subscription drive, is kicking off this week – and they’re putting on some epic parties to celebrate a mind-boggling 46 years on-air and raise essential funds to keep them broadcasting for many years to come.
Kick off the celebration on Friday, August 11 bright and early with their annual Early Birds party at The Bird. Starting at 6AM and running ’til 9AM, the station will be broadcasting a special live edition of Breakfast with Pam – with plenty of bagels and a few cheeky espresso martinis and mimosas to start your weekend early!
The next day will see Northbridge come alive with a massive four-venue, five-stage party, with over 30 of the city’s best musical acts taking over The Rechabite, The Bird, Astral Weeks and Ezra Pound.
Throughout Radiothon, you can also hit up ten of Perth’s best bars (including Astral Weeks, Bassendean Hotel, Naber and The Corner Dairy) and sink a couple of beers from one of their “karma kegs”, with portions of each sale going directly to RTR.
Besides this, you can also sign up to be one of the station’s subscribers and get access to RTRFM’s impressive roster of events throughout the year and discounts at local businesses across Perth – plus an absolutely stacked selection of prizes able to be won if you subscribe during Radiothon!
Running from August 11 to 20, the funds raised during Radiothon are vital – paying for essential expenses at the station that include licensing fees, presenter training fees, and equipment and staffing costs that enable the station to continue broadcasting.
“RTRFM has been a beloved fixture of WA music, culture and community since 1977, and we fully intend to stick around for many more years to come,” RTRFM General Manager Simon Miraudo said.
“But that can only happen with the help of the very loyal RTRFM community. So we’re asking people to ‘stick with us’ and subscribe or donate whatever they can in 2023.”
