Florida Homeowners Are Facing Surging Home Insurance Costs
The wealthy owners of Florida’s costliest homes are now facing five- to six-figure insurance policies to protect their abodes from climate-related disasters like rising sea levels and tropical storms. “I’ve done this for 32 years, and I’ve never seen rates rise the way it’s happening today. If you’re getting a rate increase under 20%, it’s almost a gift,” said Cindy Zobian, managing director at insurance broker Alliant Private Client, adding that increases of 800% are closer to the new standard. Chinese Architects Are Feeling the Impact of the Country’s Property Industry Troubles
Architects in China are grappling with the effects of the country’s real estate market crisis. Dezeen spoke to architects based in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen who reported widespread layoffs, pay cuts and wage arrears in the industry in the past year. “You are having a good day if you leave work before 10 p.m.,” said one young architect and former employee of state-owned firm Shenzhen General Institute of Architecture Design & Research. “I know some of my colleagues have worked until 3 a.m. consecutively for three months.” Dezeen
Prices Are Rising for Dubai’s Apartments
Apartments in Dubai, which make up roughly 85% of the housing supply in the Middle Eastern city, have seen their values surge. Prices for apartments rose 20% on average in the year through August, marking the largest gain logged since November 2014, according to real estate adviser CBRE. The gains outpaced price increases of 17.3% for single-family homes. “As affordability gets constrained, demand for apartments is surging because they tend to be cheaper in general,” said Taimur Khan, CBRE’s head of research. “Also, rental yields in Dubai are considerably higher than what investors can get in London, New York or Hong Kong.” Alarabiya News
