Adelaide, Australia, Seeing Steady Price Increases—and There’s No End in Sight
The property market in Adelaide, Australia, has seen significant price gains in recent weeks, and local experts say that’s not changing any time soon. CoreLogic’s latest Home Value Index found property prices in the South Australian capital grew by 1.2% last month, while values in Melbourne and Sydney are both down on previous month’s data. Quarterly growth in Adelaide was 3.9% and 7.6% annually. An “imbalance between available supply and demonstrated demand is keeping strong upwards pressure on housing values across the city,” said Tim Lawless, research director at CoreLogic. A House Built for a King for Sale in the Town Voted Prettiest in the U.K.
Standing on a cobbled street in the East Sussex town of Rye—named the prettiest town in the U.K. earlier this year—is a more than 500-year-old home up for sale. The house, which is asking £1.45 million (US$1.82 million), was built by the mayor of Rye for the sole purpose of entertaining King Henry VII. The property is Grade II listed and has six bedrooms, three reception rooms, a cellar and walled garden. Though changes over the years have added details from other eras, an architectural historian who worked with the seller on a restoration said that many of the beams, tiles and carvings were the “very highest quality” he’d seen from the Tudor period. Other historical details include a “priest hole” and a working Victorian call bell. SussexWorld
