The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has voted today in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution that calls for Russia to end hostilities in Ukraine and calls for the withdrawal of its forces. Last October, the Kingdom voted for the United Nations General Assembly resolution against the annexation of four Ukrainian regions, and before that in March, Saudi Arabia voted in support of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution that supported international law, the UN charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, including Ukraine.
The Kingdom’s voting record emanates from its commitment to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, and its commitment to respecting state sovereignty, the principles of good neighborliness, and resolving conflicts by peaceful means.
More recently, the Kingdom announced a humanitarian aid package for Ukraine worth 400 million dollars, which will contribute to alleviating the suffering of Ukrainian citizens.
Additionally, the Kingdom’s recent mediation efforts have successfully resulted in the release of ten prisoners of war from five countries in Ukraine and Russia, including two Americans.
The Kingdom will continue to strive to mediate between the two parties, in an effort to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict that will put an end to the ongoing bloodshed and suffering.
