The school holidays are coming up, and you’ll find plenty to do in Singapore with kids if you look in the right places! Like Pelago, for instance – a new platform for discovering fun activities and travel experiences – not just here but across 30 destinations globally. There’s a 25%-off deal especially for Expat Living readers right now, plus you earn KrisFlyer miles on all you spend because the platform is an extension of Singapore Airlines. It’s a great way to save for your next adventure further afield. Even better, you can also use those air miles that have been piling up to pay for them! In the meantime, here is just a sample of fun things to do through Pelago.
This four-storey indoor playground will give any kid a huge adrenalin boost (and help to tire them out!). There are 10 kaleidoscopic installations across a massive 2,800 square metres including net tunnels, obstacle courses and a 14-metre Fireman Slide – Singapore’s longest indoor slide. Elsewhere, the Rock Climb features eight different climbing lanes for developing agility, fitness and confidence; and there’s a Ninja Course, Ropes Course and a Fossil Labyrinth with stalactites and stalagmites. Or try the Roll Glider – a new aerial ride that’s part hang-gliding simulator and part roller-coaster! With time slots of 3.5 hours, it’ll keep them ‘out of trouble’ for a big part of the day. And all within the Adventure HQ at HomeTeamNS Khatib.
If witchcraft and wizardry excite you and the kids – or if they’re just huge fans of everything Hogwarts-related! – then the Magical Harry Potter-Themed Secret Chamber Escape Room will be right in their fun zone. The dark and witchy escape room is part of Once Upon A Time by The Tiara Society, a themed indoor playground at East Coast Park. Set against a backdrop of medieval castles, the Secret Chamber is part gameplay, part problem-solving – and pure escapism.
There are obstacle walls, trampolines, zip-wires, slides, pedal car racing and play towers all in one spot here; so much to do it makes you dizzy just thinking about it! Sports fans will love the baseball nets, street basketball and golf range. If your kids are the competitive type, radars and digital systems are used to measure performance so they can track themselves against friends of family members. Each two-hour slot also allows access to the Freestyle Hall, with a skate and scoot world, foam pit, gymnastics floor and more. SuperPark is an ideal outing for little play-lovers, sporting enthusiasts and budding professionals alike!
Did you know how incredibly important bees are in food production? You’ll definitely bee in the know after a 1.5-hour hands-on experience at the Bee Amazed Garden. Get to know the difference between a bee and a wasp; learn how to clean a hive and feed a queen bee; and understand how to handle bees in a way that minimises the chance of getting stung. You’ll also discover the different roles bees have in the ecosystem and their own colonies, and learn how honeycomb gets built and how these amazing insects source nectar. Then, try your hand at being a beekeeper and harvest some honey!
Fancy being led through the rainforest at night by an expert who can teach you how to see the unseen? Then you’ll want to sign up for the Naturalist Night Adventure. Learn how to locate Singapore’s nocturnal creatures and understand their different sounds and calls; know which insects to avoid – and learn how to spot them yourself; and see and hear fruit bats, owls, forest ants, roosting birds, bugs, different species of frogs, large snails, snakes, scorpions, and more. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience Singapore’s terrestrial ecosystem and diversity of animals after the sun sets.
Escape the concrete jungle this school holiday and learn some helpful skills at the same time at a 10-acre organic farm. Manda Foo, agricultural activist and co-author of Food Matters, will take you around the planet-friendly farm Bollywood Veggies, share Singapore’s farming history and urban food solutions, and give an insight into Singapore’s agricultural biodiversity. Experience two hours of hands-on farm work that will help you understand what goes into growing your food (and build your appetite!). The rewards of this Farm Walk are new knowledge as well as a delicious farm-to-table meal at the Poison Ivy Bistro. You’ll really be able to taste the difference in their locally grown produce.
And there are many more tours and things to do with Pelago in Singapore and elsewhere.
