It was a memorable day for Paul Roos in Stellenbosch as the Maroon Machine powered to a first victory over Bloemfontein giants Grey College since 2015 on Saturday.
The hosts claimed a hard-fought 34-19 win in a game they dominated on a wet and muddy pitch at the Markotter field in Stellenbosch.
Paul Roos lost three key players to the SA Schools sides in action at the U18 International Series taking place on the same weekend, while Grey College were missing six.
But, No 8 and captain Herman Loubscher led from the front for Paul Roos on Saturday, scoring a try to cap off an excellent performance, while loosehead prop Cameron Miell – deputising for SA Schools front-row heavies Wilbur Loubser and Reno Hirst – won three breakdown turnovers.
