A Sydney pizza party heads west-side
Sydney’s Pizza Oltra has made its name on the back of excellent blistery pizzas, good tunes and an appreciation for quality drinks: all things that Beaufort Street’s Si Paradiso holds dear. On Wednesday June 21, the Sydneysiders come to Beaufort Street to host a party, Oltra-style, featuring snacks, pizzas, seafood and DJs. Tickets are $20 which include snacks and a cocktail or glass of wine to get you started.
A new home for the Cecchi’s family
Mark and Kylee-Anne Cecchi’s family-run Italian restaurant Cecchi’s is a beloved Inglewood address. After more than a decade at the former home of (similarly loved) Da Bruno’s, the Cecchis have shut up shop and are moving across the road to larger premises at 1000 Beaufort Street. Cecchi’s 2.0 is due to open on Saturday July 1 and promises more space both indoors and out. The original Cecchi, meanwhile, will be turned into a wedding and function venue.
One of Perth’s great wine bars has a (temporary) new head chef
You likely know Richard Overby from his work with pop-up, Capsule. Maybe you’ve spied him in the kitchen at the soignée Wildflower. Or perhaps you’ve even caught him during his time at Esben Holmboe Bang’s Olso three-star, Maaemo. We bring up Overby’s impressive CV to demonstrate that he knows how to cook. From the end of the month, eaters get a chance to enjoy our man’s cooking – and his efforts as a gardener – as Overby starts a two-week residency at Wines of While. His season starts from Wednesday June 28 and winds up on Sunday July 9. Reservations are strongly recommended.
The Wildflower brewers are coming to Perth
Speaking of Wines of While – and, indeed, wildflowers – the wine bar’s incumbent head chefs Jack Botha and Branden Scott are popping up at Northbridge listening bar Astral Weeks this Sunday (June 18) to cater a takeover by cult Marrickville brewers, Wildflower. Famous for its wild-fermented, often tart and sour beers, Wildflower occupies its own groove in the brewing landscape and its beers sell out fast. Their appearance at Astral Weeks on Sunday is your chance to taste the brewery’s unique beers and the crew will be bringing some special treats. Doors open from 4pm and entry is free.
Fervor comes to Hearth this winter
When tickets to a dinner featuring native food pop-up Fervor go on sale, they don’t last too long, especially when that dinner is in Perth. So take this as fair warning to organise your crew and lock in your seats for Fervor’s coming events at Hearth at the Ritz-Carlton Perth. On July 26 and 27, Paul Iskov and Liz Klokeid from Fervor are joining forces with Hearth chef Brian Cole and his team to serve a five-course meal touching on the chefs’ shared love of West Australian ingredients, open-fire cooking, and delicious drinks (sommelier Camila Luzzi has chosen five wines to pair with the meal). Tickets are $249 per person all-inclusive and available online.
