In our last newsletter, I talked about higher food costs, and I asked On the Money readers to share money-saving food tips.
Here are a few practical ideas readers sent to me:
Check what you have on hand weekly in the fridge, freezer and cupboards, etc.
Plan a weekly menu using the above items.
If you forget something, make do with what you have on hand and avoid going to the market and being tempted to buy more than needed.
Make fresh and freeze rather than buy ready to heat and consume.
Take a sandwich to work.

Shop for basics like eggs, milk, coffee and orange juice at Costco.
“ My wife likes the rotisserie chicken, at $5-6 a whole chicken…hard to go wrong. She squeezes three meals for the two of us out of one chicken.”
– John T.
Avoid going food shopping with children.
