SINGAPORE: The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group saw passenger traffic cross the 2 million mark in July – the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The number of passengers in July increased 7.5 per cent from the previous month, according to SIA Group’s latest operating results released on Monday (Aug 15).
“Demand for air travel remained robust during the peak summer season across every route region except East Asia, where travel restrictions remain in place in some key markets,” it said.
Group passenger capacity in July was 4.9 per cent higher than the month before, and 107.8 per cent higher compared to a year ago.
Group capacity also reached 67 per cent of pre-COVID-19 levels during the month.
The group passenger load factor – a measure of how well an airline is filling available seats – reached a new pandemic-high of 87.4 per cent in July.
SIA Group noted that this was the second highest monthly passenger load factor in its history, with the highest monthly figure being 87.6 per cent in December 2019.
However, cargo load factor fell by 26.7 percentage points year-on-year to 60.5 per cent in July.
During the month, SIA resumed services to Shenzhen, China.
As of end-July, SIA Group’s passenger network covered 99 destinations, including Singapore. This was up from 98 in June.
SIA served 73 destinations while Scoot flew to 47 destinations as of end-July this year.
