Fancy a short-notice getaway? Singapore Airlines has some incredible deals ready for take-off now.
Singapore Airlines’ latest KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion takes off in August, and you can save 30% off the usual number of miles needed for business class, premium economy and economy flights to a variety of destinations across the Singapore Airlines network.
These great deals are available to book right now for travel from August 1 to August 31 .
As the name suggests, this is all about being ‘spontaneous’: each promotion runs for just one month, across a different number of routes to and from Singapore, allowing little time for planning.
You just have to be ready – and have the necessary number of KrisFlyer miles on hand – to seize the moment, pack a bag, grab your passport and head to the airport!
Halfway through each month, Singapore Airlines releases a list of its Spontaneous Escapes flights for the following month.
Every Spontaneous Escape flight carries an appealing 30% discount when booked with KrisFlyer miles (if you need to build up your KrisFlyer miles balance in a hurry, see if any of your credit cards allow the card’s own points to be converted into KrisFlyer miles).
Of course, not every Singapore Airlines flight is a Spontaneous Escape: each month’s promotion is limited to specific flight numbers on specific routes – usually where there’s a lot of award availability – and some blackout dates can apply.
Also, that 30% saving applies only the business, premium economy and economy class ‘Promo’ award seats on that flight – the standard ‘Saver’ and ‘Advantage’ reward tickets aren’t discounted.
Note that the discounted ‘promo’ award rates apply only if every flight in your itinerary is a Spontaneous Escape. While this won’t be an issue for simple one-way bookings, it’s something to consider for multi-city and return itineraries.
If any flight is not included in the promotion, or falls outside the applicable travel period, then the entire itinerary will be charged at normal KrisFlyer redemption rates.
An easy workaround if you’re flying return but can’t find an eligible flight in one direction is to make two one-way bookings instead of a single return booking, so at least one of your flights is locked in at the discounted rate.
If you’re set for a short-notice Spontaneous Escape, what’s on offer for the month of August?
Within Australia, Spontaneous Escape flights have been earmarked for Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, all to and from Singapore.
Other countries which see Spontaneous Escapes routes for August 2022 include India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
While there are no destinations in the USA and Europe for August, it’s worth checking in the middle of August to see if they’re on list of Spontaneous Escapes for September 2022.
Here is the complete list of Singapore Airlines’ latest Spontaneous Escapes, all for travel on August 2022 and from/to Singapore.
How do I redeem a KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes flight?
To qualify for the Spontaneous Escapes 30% discount, tickets must be issued between July 15 and July 31 for travel between August 1 and August 31, 2022.
Other than that, the booking process is a seamless experience:
Log in to your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account
Select ‘Book a Flight’ on your dashboard
Click ‘Redeem flights’ and select your desired route from the eligible selection
You’ll only be able to see the redemption discount in your booking summary once you have filled in the booking details and selected an eligible flight
Note that Spontaneous Escapes deals are only available online via Singaporeair.com – phone bookings through the KrisFlyer contact centre will be charged at normal KrisFlyer rates and also incur a US$25 service fee.
Spontaneous Escapes are definitely a good deal if they match up with where and when you want to travel (and also what class you want to fly in).
However, unlike Singapore Airlines’ typical ‘Saver’ awards, Spontaneous Escapes bookings can’t be changed or refunded.
While all Spontaneous Escapes also include free seat selection and checked baggage, the number of destinations offered is quite limited – especially on peak holiday periods.
For those who are flexible when it comes to their travel plans, however, this 30% discount on one of the best business classes currently flying is certainly tempting.
Making that even better value is that unlike most airlines, Singapore Airlines doesn’t add fuel surcharges to KrisFlyer award tickets.
KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes: FAQs
I have a confirmed award on a flight that now offers Spontaneous Escapes, can I change it?
In short, no. In this case, the best option is to book the Spontaneous Escapes flight and then cancel your existing booking. While this means you’ll need spare miles on hand, we strongly recommend following this order in case the Spontaneous Escapes award space disappears whilst you wait for the refund.
Yes. For any flights cancelled by SIA or due to COVID-19 restrictions, the miles redeemed in the unused portion of the ticket will be refunded to the relevant participant’s KrisFlyer account. However, requests to make any booking changes or to keep the discount for future use are not granted.
Yes. While seat availability for Spontaneous Escapes is on a first-come, first-served basis, waitlist promo redemptions are included in some of the listed flights.
