Singapore Airlines is set to stop its Canberra-Wellington route, replacing its connection to the Australian capital and the New Zealand capital with a flight that would connect Singapore to Wellington via Melbourne.
Singapore Airlines first launched services from Singapore to Canberra and Wellington in September 2016, as it became the first airline to operate regular international flights to and from Australia's capital city, which it would now cease to operate.
The airline announced in a statement recently that it has replaced the routing with the new Singapore-Melbourne-Wellington service, which will be operated four times per week starting May 3. It would fly with a 266-seat Boeing 777-200s, which includes 38 business class seats and 228 economy class seats.

Despite the changes, however, the airline will still connect Singapore to the Australian capital, but through a domestic routing, as it will launch a daily flight to Canberra via Sydney beginning May 1.
The Singapore-Sydney-Canberra route will operate services using the airline's 264-seat Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which features four first class seats, 48 business class seats and 184 economy class seats.
"We have seen growth in international travel into and from both Canberra and Wellington since the launch of our new services in 2016. These new routings will allow us to serve Canberra and Wellington better, and provide Canberra with a step-up in frequency," said Singapore Airlines senior vice president of marketing planning Tan Kai Ping, as quoted in a statement.
