The summer holidays are finally here and many holidaymakers will be planning to head to the Lincolnshire coast for that yearly trip to Skegness. With it being Leicestershire's closest seaside resort, we've broken down a list of the food places with the lowest hygiene ratings as per The Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The independent government department has told 10 eateries that major improvement is necessary and two that urgent improvement is necessary. The ratings range between zero to five, operating in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Many businesses serving food often display a green FSA sticker with their ratings after a food safety officer inspects the premises. The areas inspected include hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

LincolnshireLive reports that if you wish to see the food safety officer's report at a specific business, you can request it from the local authority that carried out the inspection. The below ratings are accurate as per FSA website on July 19, 2023.
All businesses listed have been approached for comment. Bibby's Beach Bar owners claim they currently have 5-star ratings throughout the establishment and declined to comment further. The Dragon Café at Fantasy Island closed down last year and did not reopen for the 2023 season.
Beachside Bites, Daniel and Tasha, said they had an unfortunate family emergency the day of the inspection and accidentally packed their paperwork in the car while in a rush. As they did not have the documents to hand, the inspectors couldn't score them above 1-star. They provided evidence of the inspector's notes which confirmed this.
