The northern suburbs of Perth are known for some spectacular nature reserves, bush trails, dunes and limestone cliffs. And once you’ve finished adventuring, you’ll need a delicious meal and drink to go with it. Fortunately there’s some great spots near the beach serving up fresh produce, good food and even better wine.
Oceans 27 is your one-stop shop for refreshing mid-morning mocktails and fresh seafood. Located on the picturesque Alkimos coastline, the family-owned and operated restaurant boasts panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and overlooks the Alkimos shipwreck. The al fresco, spacious dining area, groovy bar and colourful culinary options, will have you well and truly in vacation-mode, feeling like you’re somewhere exotic.
The contemporary coastal menu brings the perfect combination of modern Australian cuisine fused with European and Asian flavours, and a focus on fresh, line-caught seafood – George (restaurant owner) and his son catch a lot of it! The beverage menu is suitable for all tastes, with stunning Australian and International wines, refreshing cocktails and 24 craft tap beers and ciders, fresh juices and of course, great coffee.
The seafood is sensational. You won’t go wrong with the beer battered market fish, octopus and Thai squid. One word: YUM! The menu also includes favourites like Korean chicken wings, honey chicken bow bow buns, Thai squid salad and so much more. The Ocean Board is the signature dish, and celebrates all things ocean and local produce. If you’re looking for something to share, look no further! The dish features local line caught fish, Exmouth tiger prawns, Two Rocks octopus (caught and delivered by a local fisherman), oysters, squid and salmon. From time to time there’s also fresh crayfish – which is caught by another local fisherman, who drops the catch off straight from the boat. Talk about fresh!
The vibes are high, and on weekends, there’s live music and DJ’s, perfect for a serene sunset session with a drink in hand. Furry friends are also welcome! What’s not to love?

Run by three best mates who were inspired by their travels, The Beach House is a coastal bar perched atop the dunes of the WA coastline oozing an elevated, yet tranquil, seaside vibe. The Beach House is all about supporting small business and buying direct from the maker, they pride themselves on using entirely Western Australian produce.
The menu is designed to be shared, and depicts an eclectic mix of Australian traditional ingredients and Asian infused products, with everything cooked by the fire. The menu also offers a range of delicious gluten free and vegan options, fear not, no one will be missing out! Think tomato spice and sesame sourdough flatbread with spoked eggplant, pumpkin dumplings, mushroom risotto and silken tofu tomatoes. It’s enough to make your mouth water.
The architecture of the space is another talking point. The furnishings were selected by interior architects Studio Gram, who wanted to generate a feeling that brought the outside in, harnessing natural tones to embody nature and comfort. The costal bar features high tables, perfect for a post-work drink. The custom terrazzo round tables in the dining area are designed for close friends to catchup over dinner and the low couches on the two outdoor decks are the best spot to take in the sunset. Wide glass windows frame the space and look out to spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, while lush plants line the walls and complement the furnishings.

Dotted with beautiful boats, the crystal watered destination radiates a laid-back Mediterranean feel. The Mindarie Marina features waterfront dining, live entertainment, free family fun and stylish accommodation – great for a stay-cay! One of the best spots is Cabana, a poolside bar with resort-inspired menus, delectable cocktails and a sophisticated atmosphere. It’s the place to be on a balmy summer afternoon.
In terms of design and aesthetic, everything is a dreamy white. Moroccan tiled tables are perched on the timber deck, while cabanas and daybeds with striped cushions and orange umbrellas line the 9-metre pool, heated pool.
If you’re partial to a cocktail, you’re in the right place. The list includes classics like Espresso Martinis, Pina Coladas and Bloody Marys, coupled with Cabana creations like Passion Project, a mix of vodka, gin, passionfruit liqueur, orange and cranberry. There’s something to please all tastebuds. Fruity Tip: Cocktail Hour is 4-5pm every Monday to Friday.

When the sun is shining there’s no better beach side eats than Jindalee Beach Shack AKA Chippy’s. This unassuming cafe is right on the beach in Jindalee, serving up some a variety of breakfast staples along with some mean lunch options, including great burgers, fish and chips (of course) and they even do a nasi goreng! On the weekends you can enjoy a sunset dinner with rotating specials, and they’re always throwing some kind of party or event to get involved in – keep an eye on their Facebook to find out what’s coming up.

Talk about tried, tested and universally adored – no trip to the iconic Mullas beach would be complete without a stop in at Swell. Breakfast, lunch or dinner – whatever you’re after Swell has it covered, with an eclectic menu that’ll have you coming back to try everything. We’re a sucker for huevo rancheros and Swell’s is some of the best in town, while their Fisherman’s Breakfast keeps it coastal. Come back later for the chargrilled octopus (yes everyone does it, but Swell does it well), go nuts with the 8 Hour Braised Lamb Shoulder or just cop one of their excellent grazing boards and watch the surf roll in:
