As the carrier grows its fleet, it remembers its roots with retro liveries.
Recent sightings show that the Saudi Arabian flag carrier Saudia is set to receive a brand-new Boeing 787-10 aircraft, which will feature the airline's stunning retro livery. It is set to join the carrier's existing Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which also features the retro livery, albeit with minor differences.
The retro livery featured on the new aircraft set to be delivered to the airline has a dark green background on the tailplane and the engine cowlings, which sport the Saudia logo in white. The aircraft fuselage is white with a light and dark green stripe above a light and dark blue stripe running along the length of the aircraft body.
This aircraft is currently in the process of getting prepared for its delivery at the Boeing facility in Charleston. In comparison to this new aircraft, the airline's 777, which received its retro livery back in September 2021, marking the carrier's 75th birthday, features a slightly different livery.
The 777 has its radome painted in black and does not have the dark green color or the Saudia logo on its engine cowlings which in this aircraft is white, matching the fuselage. Additionally, the fuselage sports a large number '75' across the stripes, signifying the special occasion. Additionally, the shade of green used on the tailplane of the 777 is lighter than the one of the 787.
As reported by Scramble, the airline is also set to showcase its retro livery on an Airbus A321neo aircraft as well, which is currently at the Airbus facility at Finkenwerder, Hamburg.
While the new 787 set to feature the retro livery is the -10 variant, previously, the carrier has had a Boeing 787-9 feature a special livery, which was revealed alongside the 777's retro livery in September of 2021, as part of the airline's 75th-anniversary celebrations.
This special livery features a golden theme throughout the aircraft and displays images of three of the country's Royal Family members on the aircraft's golden-colored tailplane. These members are King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Muhammed Bin Salman.
In this livery, though, the airline maintains its standard color scheme throughout the fuselage; it, however, has a large golden '75' embossed towards the aft of the fuselage.
The airline, back in June of 2021, unveiled two 787-9s featuring a special livery to mark the country's celebration of 2021 as the year of Arabic Calligraphy.
Both aircraft featured calligraphy-styled liveries, which was part of the country's Quality of Life Program. The integration of the special liveries on aircraft were aimed to represent Arabic calligraphy as 'an aesthetic icon that represents the Saudi identity'.
Furthermore, the Quality of Life Program is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to develop key sectors across the country and reduce dependency on the country's oil resources.
