A Swiss Federal Administrative Court has rejected an objection made by an unsuccessful bidder in last year’s tender for new trains. This clears the way for Stadler to secure its deal.
Stadler in October 2021 came out on top in a tender by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and its subsidiaries Thurbo and RegionAlps and was awarded a framework agreement for up to 510 single-decker FLIRT multiple units.
A first round of 286 train sets is planned, with another 224 under option. The initial contract is valued at close to 2 billion Swiss francs, or around 1,85 billion euros.
First deliveries are scheduled for year-end 2025. Production will take place in the Bussnang area, with at least 75 percent of components produced domestically.
