Subaru of America hit a few home runs for three of its 2023 models and also had some strikeouts. The 2023 Subaru Outback, 2023 Ascent, and 2023 Legacy are big hits for the Camden, N.J. automaker. They all received significant improvements over the outgoing models.
The Outback, Ascent, and Legacy are made in Subaru’s plant in Lafayette, Indiana, and all get a refresh with upgrades in styling, safety tech, and interiors. All should be a big hit with new car shoppers. The Impreza, in need of a remodel, also made in the U.S. plant, is a strike out with no new upgrades.
Subaru Impreza Turns 30-Years-Old – It Now Has An Identity Crisis
The 2023 Subaru Forester and 2023 Subaru Crosstrek are manufactured at Subaru’s plant in Gunma, Japan, and are also strikes outs for the 2023 model year. Both are carry-over models with no improvements over the outgoing models.
The Subaru Crosstrek and Subaru Impreza have now seen two years with no changes. The Subaru Forester has one year unchanged from the previous year’s model. Forester and Impreza sales are dropping, while Crosstrek is now the number-one-selling model in the lineup.
Why did Subaru choose to have so many carry-over models?
Subaru blames it on global supply chain issues and microchip shortages. But other automakers found a way to bring out all-new models and improve their existing ones.
Subaru has always been conservative in its new model changes and has not affected sales until now. But it’s a new era with automakers retooling their entire lineups and switching to EVs. Subaru has the new all-electric 2023 Solterra compact SUV, which will help the Japanese automaker when it finally arrives. But will it be enough?
Here are the new models for U.S. customers. Click on the red link for more details on each newly-upgraded model.
