Welcome back to Simple Flying's Sunday Reads weekly digest, with this particular iteration being the first for the month of September 2022. How many of your top stories from recent days have made it into this week's selection?
Lufthansa has reached an exciting milestone in the form of the arrival of its maiden Boeing 787 'Dreamliner' aircraft. The German flag carrier's first of 32 mid-sized 787-9 twinjets touched down at its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) hub earlier this week, following a 9.5-hour flight from Boeing's facilities in the US state of Washington.
Northern Pacific Airways, the startup airline that plans to fly one-stop itineraries between the United States and Asia, has moved on a great deal in the past few months. From one Boeing 757, the airline now has three, with more on the way. Even more excitingly, Simple Flying has obtained an exclusive look at the airline's incredible interiors, all fitted out and ready to go. You can see the cabin here.
United Airlines and Emirates generated significant excitement this week. United posted a vague message on Twitter and asked if Emirates wanted "to hang (ar) out on September 14." Emirates then replied that it would meet United on that day.
Finnish flag carrier Finnair has revealed that it will launch three new routes to Doha using the Airbus A330. As part of a strategic partnership with fellow oneworld member Qatar Airways, the new routes will link the two carriers' networks together, allowing a comprehensive passenger & cargo codeshare agreement.
On Thursday, September 1, Gulf carrier and A380 operator extraordinaire Emirates announced that it would bring its retrofitted superjumbos with the new premium economy cabin to five new destinations. The cities that will see the service from December onwards are New York JFK, San Francisco, Melbourne, Auckland and Singapore. You can read more about the planned use of the refurbished A380s here.
Ryanair is well-known for applying a single-type aircraft operating model, with its majority Boeing 737 fleet (and the Airbus A320 belonging to subsidiary Lauda Europa). However, the budget carrier's narrowbody aircraft are also joined by three much smaller Learjet aircraft. You can find out more about these elusive jets here.
