Offering a case mix in specialist training, the MoU signing is aimed at resolving the specialist and sub-specialist shortage in Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 – Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) and Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) are collaborating to explore various areas in the field of health care, as well as medical academia.
Both parties inked the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony on June 23, 2022.
Through this partnership, UKM will extend its facilities, specifically under the Faculty of Medicine, to look into a number of medical undertakings, including research and studies, teaching and learning, seminars, graduate studies sponsorship, clinical trials, and lab equipment, as well as exchange of professional expertise.
HCTM is a well-known centre for training, where a facility for specialist training has been provided through HUKM.
The collaboration also covers a specific medical postgraduate programme that will take place at HCTM. The programme offers an opportunity for a short fellowship attachment overseas, with a duration of a minimum three years, Candidate selection will be performed by both SHG and HUKM.
“The signing of this MoU between our two institutions today represents a partnership that will result in many new joint research initiatives to generate new synergies, along with staff development through training and the addition of academic values,” said Prof Dr Wan Kamal Mujani, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, UKM.
“The collaboration among experts will allow us to improve and expand the source of innovation, medium of creation, dissemination of knowledge, and human capital development, while at the same time, allowing both parties to achieve greater heights and benefit the community,” he added.
“The collaborative advantage in health care is not only in terms of academics, but is also directly associated with improved patient outcomes. Working together with HCTM means we are able to exchange intelligence in developing more clinical trials and ultimately create new solutions for diverse treatments,” said Lau Beng Long, managing director of Sunway Healthcare Group.
