Syracuse Fashion Week : Spring Fling
With the beats of “Glamorous” by Fergie blasting through the speakers, Syracuse Fashion Week returned to the Aloft Inner Harbor Hotel Thursday night.
Models walked the runway with smiles and style, sharing spring fashions and accessories from local boutiques and brands.
This weekend marks the triumphant return to the runway for the annual design showcase, with three shows at venues across Syracuse featuring nearly two dozen designers and more than 120 models.
Danielle Thousand was the first model down the runway, opening the show for Fashion Rescue 911 of Baldwsinsville. Thousand has taken part in Fashion Week since its inception in 2014, but Thursday night was her first time opening the show. Thousand says the excitement helped to fuel her fierce strut down the runway.
The runway went to the dogs as four-legged friends wearing ‘Walking Miss Daisy’ pet accessories took center stage. Owner Chyloe Frank makes colorful leashes and collars by hand, and the audience was charmed by hats and scarves designed perfectly for fur babies.

The lineup included veteran designers like New York Optometric, which has showcased its latest eyewear collections at Syracuse Fashion Week since its first show in 2014.
Newcomer Flower Skate Shop made its debut at Spring Fling. Owned by John More and Charlie Giancola, the McCarthy Mercantile boutique features vintage fashions and skate wear. Models took to the runway in pastels and neutral-colored items with matching sunflower shaped sunglasses.
During a brief intermission, organizers opened the floor for donations to The Food Bank of Central New York. A collection of $287 from the audience will fund 861 meals for local families in need. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank is able to distribute three meals; Fashion Week has donated $12,000 and provided 40,000 meals to local families since 2014.

The closing designer was Michelle DaRin, whose jewelry and clothing brand has a bohemian, bold and edgy look.
This year, DaRin featured Ukrainian child models wearing yellow and blue and carrying Ukrainian flags in solidarity with the Ukrainian community in Syracuse and around the world.
