Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) Taiwan has been trying to attract information technology (IT) talent from Singapore and Malaysia, as part of a national policy goal to attract 60,000 foreign professionals from 2021-2030, the National Development Council (NDC) said Tuesday.
Headed by NDC Deputy Minister Yu Chien-Hwa (游建華), a delegation comprising government officials and industry representatives recently held several job fairs in the two Southeast Asian countries from Sept. 5-11, it said.
During the events, Taiwanese semiconductor giants Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp., as well as IT startups PicCollage Co. and Lucid Group, Inc., had opportunities to network with professionals and students from National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Universiti Malaya, for instance.
To attract foreign talent to work, invest and live in Taiwan, Yu also introduced the country’s Employment Gold Card system, the NDC said in a statement.
He said Taiwan has issued the cards to about 6,000 highly-skilled foreign individuals since the system, introduced by the Act for the Recruitment of Foreign Professionals, was implemented in February 2018.
The Act relaxes Taiwan’s regulations on visas, work permits, taxes, insurance, pensions and residency for foreign professionals and their families.
Under the act, the employment gold card is a four-in-one card that simultaneously serves as a work permit, residence visa, alien resident certificate and re-entry permit.
