The Huawei Mate 40 Pro has been shown to be rather repairable by flagship smartphone standards. Torn down by AIO Technology, the website revealed that the Mate 40 Pro has modular components at practically every turn. Huawei has not tied parts to serial numbers as Apple has with the iPhone 12 series, which should make the Mate 40 Pro and its siblings a cinch to repair.
The battery, for example, has adhesive pull tabs that minimise the risk of damaging the battery when removing it. Additionally, Huawei has kept the device’s 5x periscope zoom in a different housing to its other rear-facing cameras, another example of modularity. Likewise, the device’s USB Type-C port appears to be simple to replace.
Naturally, we would only recommend repairing your Mate 40 Pro if you are confident at carrying out smartphone repairs. You will need to heat the device to remove its back glass panel, for instance, which may be daunting to some people. Similarly, there are plenty of small screws that one could put back incorrectly, possibly damaging the phone.
