Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is seeking a third term. The Democratic nominee is former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (TX-16). O’Rourke previously ran statewide in 2018, losing to GOP Sen. Ted Cruz by a little under 3% in a race that garnered national attention.
Abbott is favored, with most polling showing him ahead by high single digits.

The redistricting process made 35 of 38 districts uncompetitive this year. All eyes will instead be on three seats in South Texas. The area, long safely Democratic, has seen Republican inroads over the past couple years.
