Good morning.
Earth, Fire and Water. I promise this isn’t an email about feng shui – rather, these are the themes of three latest episodes of Insight.
In India, high up in the Himalayas, the earth is moving. An important pilgrimage town, Joshimath, collapsed earlier this year, leaving hundreds homeless. But Joshimath could be a sign of even more troubles to come.

Many of India’s mountain towns are in a similar precarious situation – over-developed, built on unstable foundations – and could face the same fate as Joshimath.
While filming, producer Tamal Mukherjee experienced firsthand the wrath of the mountains. A landslide blocked the road, leaving the crew stranded overnight in their car as temperatures plummeted to near freezing.
Meanwhile, in the Mekong area, raging fires earlier this year engulfed the region in a thick, suffocating haze. Cities like Chiangmai saw their worst pollution in years.
But there are worrying signs that this year’s haze is not an anomaly – it could return with greater intensity.

Over in Vietnam, ironically, water scarcity could be the biggest threat to its economy. Why is a country with plentiful rivers and abundant rainfall short of water? We investigate.
Catch these episodes on how human activity and climate change have impacted three different parts of Asia.
