The act of eating out is defined as "eating away from home", making it a relative and open-to-interpretation term, which is a full meal to our bellies when we set about compiling this comprehensive list.
Eating out is a yearly treat at a Michelin-Starred restaurant; for others it is a huge part of their way of life, while plenty of families see eating out as a Friday night chippy tea and to some it is a chance to meet friends, family and colleagues to share conversation over a meal.
Whether it is Lancashire's own specialty dishes, butty shops, fine dining, world cuisines, award-wining restaurants, experimental menus, brunch spots, takeaways, markets, brilliant bistros, classic pub grub and cute cafes, our Red Rose county offers an extensive choice.

Of course, we are deep in the belly of a cost of living crisis and that could last well into 2023, but eating out doesn't have to be expensive, so we have made sure to included a good amount of affordable places, without compromising on good, quality food and service.
With the hospitality industry still recovering from rolling lockdowns and the rise in costs of supplies due to the war in Ukraine and other factors. we have also concentrated on independent businesses using local suppliers, with a small sprinkling of global chains thrown into the mix, too. Every single one comes highly recommended from reliable sources, customers and many have been reviewed by LancsLive.
So, Lancashire, brace yourselves of a mouth-wateringly whopping list of 50 places ( (in no particular order)you should eat out at this year.
Bar Pintxos, Preston
Food critic Jay Rayner popped here and absolutely raved about the place and we are certainly not here to disagree with him. He said Pintxos was "sweetly accommodating" and served "very agreeable tapas". He gave a special nod to the Basque cheesecake, adding it was "light and creamy and eminently finishable.
The casual restaurant is run by Anthony Smith, who clearly has passion for Spanish food and dining culture.
Off Fishergate, 36 Market Place, Preston PR1 2AR
Stefani's, Blackpool
You'll see the word 'genuine' a lot on menus, but Stefani's is certainly not using it flippantly and they're not messing around, either. This pizzeria was borne after the owner spent time in Naples learning about ingredients for the sauce and methods of how to cook a bona fide Neapolitan pizza properly, before passing his secrets to the chefs.
An the effort was worth it while you also have to try the homemade desserts. There's less than 10 tables and they tend to book up most evenings, with very limited walk-in spaces, however they do have al fresco dining out in Cedar Square in the warmer months.
It's not Naples, but it is the next best thing.
3 Cedar Square, Blackpool FY1 1BP
Secret Bistro, Lancaster
You'll get substance and style at Secret Bistro, tucked away down the city's cobbled foodie street. This venue is quirky, fun and bold with the menu an experimental take on traditional French and bistro dishes, using seasonal ingredients.

25 Sun Street, Lancaster, LA1 1EW
The Barn at Moor Hall, Aughton
It is time for double Michelin-starred and multi award-winning Moor Hall to let its casual little sister take some time in the spotlight. The Barn finally got its own Michelin Star in 2022 and while it is still fine dining, there is something much more inviting and, if we're being brutally honest, more inclusive, whoever you are and wherever you have come from.
The food is "poetry on a plate" and the service is laced with minute and impressive details, while the setting is classy, comfortable and full of character. Take our five stars, The Barn and add it to your Michelin one.

Primrose Gardens Extra Care Residential, Fleet St, Chorley PR7 2EE
Twisted Indian, Blackpool
Indian food, street food style where "traditional meets modern, where global meets desi and where being twisted is absolutely normal. 2 Fair enough, but why? Because normal is boring.

Tyson Fury loves Sultan and judging by his dominance in the boxing ring, we won't be questioning his judgement, and we have no need to either, as he certainly has talent in picking good places to eat, as well as throwing that knockout punch.

In their own words, quite simply French say: "The emphasis is on great ingredients from the area with local charm and stylish panache coming together to create an insider feel that you don’t get at a more formal hotel."

Abingdon Barbecue, Blackpool
We are not exaggerating when we say this place always has a queue. Whatever the weather or time of day, there's people waiting to be served.
The biggest issue is deciding what to have, as there's so much choice. It's a no messin' kind of place, with staff serving you as quickly as possible with a smile before swiftly moving on to the next customer, so don't be put off if there is a queue. It is the ultimate quick lunch hotspot.
We demolished a turkey and stuffing butty and a portion of chips, but that's just one of hundreds of options and that is evident by even just peering in through the window, to see everything from roasted chicken thigh pieces, baked potatoes, a salad bar, pork pies and spicy chicken wings.
4 Abingdon St, Blackpool FY1 1DA

Miller Arcade, 1-4 Church St, Preston PR1 2QY

The Eating Inn, Blackpool
"Fabulous sequined cow on the roof does not distract from the amazing food" was the headline for our review of this steakhouse on Blackpool promenade, complete with seaview.
This venue has been running for 40 years and shows no signs of slowing down and appears to relish its prime spot, with plenty of footfall, especially in peak season. As for the food, we'll just leave this here:
"The meat was so smooth and charismatic, it was like Tommy DeVito from was Goodfellas was talking in my mouth. It screamed "we have been doing this more than 30 years, we KNOW how to cook steak".
The Eating Inn, 463 Promenade, South Shore, Blackpool FY4 1AR

They don't stop their, either, with rag pudding and "dab" (Blackburn version of a potato scallop) also among the obscure Lancs food on the menu. If a regular fish and chip tea is what you are after, they do that too but that' a cop-out, if you ask us. *hides*.
