It’s a TikTok world, and we’re just living in it. The social media app’s popularity grew exponentially over quarantine, and there’s been a lot of success regarding people becoming TikTok influencers on the app ever since. These days, a lot of people are aspiring content creators who want to know how they can succeed on the app. Well, good news for you, because it’s time to talk about one of the most important factors to content creation: the perfect timing. Since there are millions of new videos being uploaded to TikTok daily, knowing what time to post to reach the highest number of people is important in order to maximize the amount of views you’re receiving. Now, to find the best time to post on TikTok is to understand a couple of things: the audience and the days of the week.
First up, your audience. What group of people are you trying to reach on TikTok? Are you trying to attract young adults who are into fitness? Students who might need some big sister advice? Teens who are struggling to find their identity? It doesn’t matter who you are trying to reach — what matters is posting on TikTok depending on their schedule. Each demographic looks different as far as the times they are most active on TikTok. If you’re trying to reach high school students, for example, you would want to post after 3 p.m. when school ends. If you’re trying to reach working women, you may want to try around noon when most people take their lunch breaks. Knowing the type of audience you want to reach is important to figuring out when the best time to post on TikTok is.

Next up, the days and times. How many days should you be posting a week in order to best follow the algorithm and hit peak engagement? According to SproutSocial, generally, the best times to post on TikTok are on Tuesdays from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Now, this is also very dependent on your time zone and local area. By that, I mean make sure that you’re posting content that accommodates the time zone and area you’re trying to reach. Plus, it’s also important to check into when your own followers are online. You’re able to tell this in TikTok. On your profile, click the menu in the top right-hand corner. Hit Creator Tools, and go to Analytics. From there, click on Followers. In there, you’ll be able to see the most active times for your followers — the more active your followers are, the better the time to post.
Perfume influencer @perfumerism, who has almost 350,000 followers on TikTok and over 18 million likes, tells Her Campus her secret sauce on determining when to post in order to maximize her engagement. “I think afternoons are the best times. I am in EDT and most of my followers are in the US and Canada, so my stuff performs best after 12 p.m. EDT when all my followers on the West Coast are awake as well,” she says. “Live-streaming is best in the evenings, however, because people are more likely to be watching in bed and have the time for longer media.”
Hopefully, this gives you a bit more insight on the best time to post on TikTok, and will help maximize the engagement you receive on your content.
