Davis Polk & Wardwell on Tuesday rescinded job offers to three students in leadership positions at Harvard and Columbia university groups that issued public statements supporting Palestine in the wake of Hamas’ deadly attacks in Israel, according to an internal email reviewed by Reuters.
Davis Polk’s managing partner Neil Barr said in the email that the statements “are simply contrary to our firm’s values” and added that the firm is remaining “in dialogue” with two of the students.
The move comes a day after prominent Harvard alumni denounced a statement from a coalition of 34 university students organizations that said “the apartheid regime is the only one to blame” for the violence, referring to Israel. Last week, Winston & Strawn revoked a job offer to former New York University Student Bar Association president Ryna Workman, after Workman wrote that “Israel bears full responsibility” for Hamas’ deadly attack in Israel. The university said on Tuesday it is investigating whether Workman violated the school’s policies against discrimination and harassment.
